3 Projects
For this project our task was to produce an accurate 3D model of a product using Autodesk Inventor. I chose to reproduce a bottle open. To produce this product in a virtual world I first had to measure each individual part of the bottle opener and then draw each part in the programme. Using the tools available in the programme I produced each part into a 3D model as accurate as I could. Finally, I assembled the bottle open adding constraints to each part so that they would move in the right and same way as the actually product. From this 2D drawings could then be produced and given to a manufacture team to produce the product.
This project was very similar to the first, however not only did I have to reproduce a model of the guitar controller from guitar hero but I also had to produce an animation showing how the product would fit together and in which order the pieces fit together. Autodesk Inventor was again used for this project as the programme has all the tools required for this project. Once the model was assembled producing the animation was fairly straight forward as you could work backwards by taking the assembled product apart and animating it.
In my final year for my major project I created an animation of how a Lego model was put together so that the booklet would not be needed and therefore reducing the effect on the environment. To do this the animation would be available online and a code would be included with the model so that the instructions could be found online. I also chose this project to see whether having a moving visual aid helped the user construct the model and whether this improved the learning experience for the user. To produce the animation I used Autodesk 3DStudio Max.

Business Card
To come up with some themes, colours and images for my CV and business card i first made a list of the things i'm good at and like doing:
Football
Team work
Cooking breakfast
Working with people
Waiter
Bar man
Driving
Computer games
Relaxing
Sleeping
Sport
Organising people
Eating
Saving money
Once i had come up with this list i then realted these words with images, colours and shapes:
Football - balls, straight and cruved lines, circles, black and white
Bar man - Black, bubbles, fruit, bright colours
Cooking breakfast - steam, wavey, brown
Driving - smooth shapes, shiny
Relaxing - blue, horizontal lines
From this i the nstarted developing some images and design ideas for my business card. The images used for my business card could then also be used on my CV. The following images are some of the ideas i came up with.
As football is 1 of the main things i like doing and watching i thought a take the images from that. So i firstly used the straight lines used all around the pitch as a bottom border to the business card. I then used the circle of the football and the middle circle on the pitch as the basis of the image on the card. As well as using solid lines for the circle i also added paint effects to this design as the line on the pitch are painted on. The colour I want ot use for my business card is blue, not just because i like the colour but as im a very relaxed and layed back person i feel represents this very well as, to me, its a very chilled out colour.
I then created 2 more business cards based on the same kind of theme but took out the paint element as i felt this made the card look a bit tacky and unprofessional. i kept the same colour and the lines at the bottom of the card as i thought that this made the card look more professional and apealing.
In this design of my business card i tried to give the impression of movement of the football by adding lots of little solid circles that get smaller nearer the end.

Theme Idea
After doing a group brainstorm we decided to develop the theme idea of the London 2012 olympics as it is relivant to this year and wont happen again anytime soon. It would also mean that we were helping to promote the games.
The first images i thought of when we decided on an olympic theme for our exhibition was the logo used for the London 2012 games shown in the pictures above. The colours from the flag are used on 1 of these logos so we could use this or even the colours in and around the exhibition.
As well as using the specific logo for the London 2012 we could also use the logo for the olympic games in general. The shapes are very simple crings which could easily be used in all parts of the exhibition. This logo also gives us a couple more colours to use if we needed them.
To make sure everyone gets the theme that it the London Olypmpics and not just the olympics images or even models of the iconic buildings could be placed around the room seperating different parts of the exhibition and peoples work.
Another idea with the theme and to help guide people around the exhibition was to use the image and lines of the running track. This would basically involving creating lines in the shape of a running track to guide people round the exhibition.
If at the entrance to the exhibition or at the end we have a board with all of our photos on these stick figures of each game at the olympics could be used to link faces to peoples work. Instead of using numbers the stig figures could link a photo of someone with the work by putting the image in the corner of the photo as well as that persons work. This would work in the exact same way as a number would but just using an image instead.
For our presentation to the rest of the group i was given the task of coming up with a mock example of the layout of the boards for each person. I came up with a basic layout and design shown above using the logos of both the London Olympics and the general Olympics. the pictures of work and the text are then divided up as shown although this can be changed depending on peoples work and how they want it shown. This is just a general idea for how the boards could look and not the final thing.
I then added my work and just added simple text to show how the board would look once its filled in.

Natural History Museum Visit
When you first enter the Natural History museum you are confronted by a massive skeleton model of a dinosaur in the centre of the hall facing you as you enter. This skeleton is impressive on its own, however to make it stand out even more and make it look even more impressive red spot lights have been placed around the bottom of it catching parts of the skeleton. This gives a feeling to the piece, such as danger, by using the colour red.
The next piece that caught my attention was this model a a red panda. The information about this creature is plit vertically into 3 sections to try and break the information up abit so that it doesnt seem like there is as much to read. Another reason this model also caught my attention was the fact that it was postioned within the canteen of the museum so that while people were eating they could still see it. We could incorparate this into our exhibition if we are struggling to fit everything into the area we have been given.
Through some of the corridors of the museum they had boards and poster of different things giving extra bits of information. 1 of the boards that took my eye was this 1 with an image of a dragon fly spread across 2 of the boards. I thought this was a very good way of joining 2 seperate boards together leading 1 on to the next.
In the Natural History Museum there are a lot of interactive exhibits that i thought was a vewry good idea so that people and kids walking round didnt get board of just looking and reading they could actually touch and play with things. One good example of this was the pictures showing how even thou this exhibit was only written information and pictures the viewer felt involved as the information was split onto 3 spereate boards that they had to spin to get all the information. Another example this was an exhibit which at first just looks like a model of something with a mirror behind it. However next to each of these was a button that once pressed change the mirror into the information about the object below. i couldnt get a good picture of this as the glass kept reflecting the lights in the room in the pictures taken with my camera.
The final exhibit i found interesting and thought we might be able to incorparte into our exhibition was that many of the exhibits in the museum also were mounted onto objects built to resemble something. the picture above shows one exhibit were they had done this. By creating simple building shapes covered in as which the information about volcanoes were actually mounted on made the information alot more interesting and made you want to read it rather than if it was just placed on a simple plain wall.
